Fire Extinguishers

First Alert offers fire extinguishers for your home or business, in several sizes and types, because having a fire extinguisher on hand can be the difference between minimal damage and a huge catastrophe. It is recommended that you have a fire extinguisher on every level of your home, and common spaces like the kitchen, laundry room and garage for easy access in the event of a fire.

Home Fire Extinguishers

When choosing a fire extinguisher for your home, you should choose a multi-purpose extinguisher that can be used on all types of home fires. You can purchase a home fire extinguisher for your car, garage, workshop, boat, or recreational vehicle, as well.

Commercial Fire Extinguishers

We also offer a variety of commercial fire extinguishers to help keep your company, employees, customers and visitors safe in the event of a fire. In a commercial setting, a heavy-duty fire extinguisher is essential for fire safety and required for any commercial building. An appropriately rated commercial fire extinguisher should be clearly visible and accessible, mounted on a wall next to an exit.

Fire Extinguisher Ratings

All fire extinguishers are rated which determine the size and type of fire that the extinguisher can put out. The fire extinguisher rating indicates the type of fire it can be used to extinguish. There are three ratings categories: A, B, or C.

  • “A” type fires are primarily wood, paper and fabric
  • “B” type fires are primarily flammable liquids (such as gasoline) and oil based
  • “C” type fires are electrical in nature.

The number preceding the A, B, or C rating determines how big of a professionally set fire the extinguisher can put out. For example, a 10-B:C extinguisher would be able to handle a 25-foot square fire of either flammable liquid or electrical origin.
